QU'EST CE QUE L'ECOVERO? - LEITA Paris

WHAT IS ECOVERO?

A PROMISING & ECOLOGICAL FIBER THAT COULD WELL REPLACE SILK.

At the origin of the LEITA creation, there was the desire to create an ethical and responsible brand. To move from words to action, the first step was to use fabrics with a low environmental footprint, which turned out to be a complex matter, mainly due to a limited supply (compared to the conventional supply existing). My choice fell on the EcoVero which stands out for its environmental and aesthetic qualities.

WHAT WOOD DO I USE?

Ecovero is an artificial material made from natural sources of regenerated cellulose. Concretely, we start from a tree, from which we extract a pulp which is dissolved in a bath of water and non-toxic solvent to produce EcoVero fibers. These fibers are then transformed into yarn and then woven to create clothing.

The woods used are selected for their high cellulose ratio: eucalyptus, beech, spruce, birch and pine are the most frequently used species. All wood production comes from sustainably managed forests in Austria, Czechia, Scandinavia, South Africa, the United States and the Baltic States.

YOU SAY SUSTAINABLE?

The sustainability of this raw material is certified by the FSC and PEFC labels. This is an essential point when we know that the major environmental issue in this sector turns out to be the exhaustion of forest resources. This problem is avoided since only the upper part of the trees is used and only “second category” trees are transformed (i.e. trees already damaged, fallen into rivers, or damaged by other industries).

This fiber also has other advantages in terms of preserving natural resources and the environment. Compared to classic viscose, the production of EcoVero consumes -50% water and emits -50% CO2. Even if this is not how we are going to save the planet, it is always better to cover with this type of material rather than synthetic materials made from fossil materials, such as polyester.

ECOVERO IS THE NEW SILK.

Commitment is an important thing but creating chic and comfortable clothes was also very important to me. Silk appeared to be the most appropriate material for making this first capsule. However, finding responsible silk was a mission impossible. So the EcoVero appeared as the perfect alternative. Its softness and lightness fully met the established comfort criteria while its silky touch provided the expected chic.

Like silk, EcoVero has qualities relating to skin respiration and moisture absorption. If we want to be clearer, this means that this material does not make you sweat. And if, however, you stay too long in the sun, get hot and sweat, don't worry, your clothing won't have a suspicious smell like this little shirt you bought at Z***. Yes, you keep wearing it because it looks so good on you but clearly it smells bad after a few hours despite the intensive wash cycle it's been through. By the way, how do we maintain the EcoVero?

THE IRL MAINTENANCE GUIDE.

Before ordering this fabric, I did numerous tests at home to ensure the quality of this material. So I'm sharing with you my tips from real life to make your EcoVero clothes last.

To start, they are machine washable inside out at 30°, the ideal program to save water, energy, fiber and keep the colors intact.

We don't always think about it, but drying is an important step to keep the shape of your clothes intact. It is not recommended to leave your clothes lying around in a ball in the machine (my specialty!) and not to carefully hang them out in the open air (especially no tumble dryer). For shirts, the ideal is to hang them on a hanger, and for pants to overlap the seams well to prevent them from turning.

We come to the last stage, that of ironing. EcoVero comes from a natural fiber and must be ironed (unlike polyester from plastic which cannot be ironed) but don't worry, this is done very quickly and easily. The iron glides on the fabric and I, who don't like ironing, find a certain pleasure in it when I have to get started!
